How long does it take to make my journal?

Each Maison Rose journal is handcrafted to order in small batches.

Please allow up to 1-2 weeks for production and crafting time - however we aim to have your journal completed much sooner before your order ships. This allows us the time to carefully cut, prepare, assemble, emboss, and finish each piece by hand.

We believe slow craftsmanship creates better objects — and pieces worth keeping.

Why are some leather colors temporarily unavailable?

At Maison Rose, many of our leathers are sourced in small quantities from select tanneries in Italy and the United States.

Because we work with premium vegetable-tanned hides and craft in small batches, certain colors may occasionally become unavailable while we wait for new hides to arrive from the tannery.

Rather than overproducing or compromising on quality, we intentionally source according to demand to ensure every piece meets our standards for craftsmanship, texture, and finish.

If a leather becomes unavailable after purchase, we will always contact you directly with:

an updated timeline,
alternative leather options,
or the option for a full refund.

We deeply appreciate your patience and support for slow craftsmanship and small-batch production.

Do shipping times include crafting time?

No.

Shipping estimates shown at checkout refer only to carrier transit time once your package has shipped.

Production and crafting time is separate and may take up to 2 weeks depending on:

customization requests
material availability
order volume

You will receive tracking information as soon as your order begins its journey to you.

Are your journals handmade?

Yes.

Every journal is handcrafted with close attention to detail using genuine leather and hand-finished techniques. Because of this process, slight variations may occur between pieces.

No two journals are exactly alike — and we believe that’s part of what makes them special.

What is vegetable-tanned leather?

Vegetable-tanned leather is a premium leather created using natural tannins derived from plants, bark, and wood instead of heavy synthetic chemicals.

It is known for:

beautiful aging and patina
durability
rich texture and depth
a more natural, artisanal finish

Over time, your journal will soften, deepen in tone, and develop character unique to you.

Will my journal scratch or mark easily?

Yes — and intentionally so.

Vegetable-tanned leather is a living material that develops marks, softening, and patina through daily use. These changes are part of the beauty of the leather and make each piece uniquely personal over time.

Where is your leather sourced?

Our leather is sourced from carefully selected tanneries in Italy and the United States.

We choose hides based on:

quality
structure
finish
flexibility
aging characteristics

Only a small percentage of leather meets our standards.

What comes with my order?

Every Maison Rose order includes:

your handcrafted leather journal

Packaging is designed to feel personal, thoughtful, and gift-like from the moment it arrives.

Can I personalize my journal?

Yes.

Depending on the listing, customization options may include:

embossing
charm additions
hardware selections
cord color selections
custom leather sourcing

Some custom atelier pieces also include complimentary embossing and charm selections.

Can I request a custom leather color?

Yes.

Our Custom Atelier option allows clients to request special-order leather colors outside of our standard collection.

Are charms included?

For out pieces, a limited number of charms may be included depending on the listing details.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Due to the handmade and personalized nature of our products, all sales are final.

We do not accept returns or exchanges for:

custom orders
embossed items
personalized pieces
natural leather variations

However, if your order arrives damaged or there is a significant craftsmanship issue, please contact us within 5 days of delivery and we will gladly review the situation.
